Anda Munkevica

Graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia, Faculty of Visual Plastic Arts, Department of Glass Art, Riga – (BA), 1998, (MA), 2021; and from the Faculty of Visual Arts, Sculpture Department (MA), 2021.
Awarded numerous grants for creative work by the State Culture Capital Foundation (SCCF), and several travelling fellowships by the Nordic Council of Ministers, Baltic Sleipnir.
Received many awards, including: the Grand Prix – 1st prize, “Opened form” from the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Riga, Latvia, 2001; an honourable mention at the International Exhibition of Glass Kanazawa, Japan, 2016; the Grand Prix of the Latvian Artists’ Union, 2016; the award for “Female Design Promoter” in the competition “Woman in Architecture, Construction, Design”, Riga, 2016; Honourable Mention “Year’s Best Construction in Latvia” in the category “Renewal of Riga Dome Cathedral”, 2018; 3rd prize in the Centenary Environmental Object sketch contest, Riga, 2018;
Nominated for the Art Academy of Latvia Award in 2014 and for the Latvian Television and Latvian Radio annual award “Kilogrammes of culture”, 2021.
Participated in 17 solo exhibitions in Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, and the United States, as well as in over 100 group exhibitions around the world – Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, China, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Hungary, Japan, Lithuania, Russia, and the United States. She regularly participates in international glass symposia, seminars, and festivals around the world.
Works in many museum collections, including: Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, the United States; Europäisches Museum für Modernes Glas, Rödental, Germany; Notojima Glass Art Museum, Notojima Kodamachi, Japan; Museum of Decorative Arts and Design and the Museum of the Latvian Artists’ Union – Riga; Glass Museum in Lviv, Ukraine; Gazanias’, Lommel, Belgium; Rakusui-tei Museum of Art, Toyama, Japan; Museum of Glass and Crystal in Nikolsk, Russia.
In 2002, she founded SIA “AM Studio”, currently the largest and most versatile glass processing company in Latvia, engaged in the execution of extraordinary and daring glass projects.
She is interested in studies of cognition and other scientific research.
